Australia: Margaret River - New 2014 Tour

Australia is noted for many things: The Sydney Opera House and Bondi Beach, Kangaroos and Kuala Bears, the Great Barrier Reef, the Outback and the Aborigine culture. But its fame goes beyond these iconic places and animals.

For economic reasons, wine is a popular and critical export. Australia is the 7th largest producer of wine in the word, exporting about 60% of its production. The regional names most N. Americans wine enthusiasts typically associate with Australian wines include Adelaide Hills, Hunter Valley, Barossa Valley, Yarra Valley, McLaren Vale, and Coonawarra, all in the south or southeast. While 70% of all Australia’s wine production comes from these areas, 20% of all the premium wines produced in Australia comes from the Southwest, and Margaret River in particular.
